APRIL AUTO 2006 - MERCEDES-BENZ S550 -
-- FRESH OFF THE SHOWROOM FLOOR -- It's not everyday that a sexy new sedan hits the streets drawing awe and admiration from car fiends and civilians alike. The new S550 has definitely made quite a splash in and around the streets of New York. The S-Class flagship represents everything that the Mercedes name stands for. The car is filled with new technology and as an advertisement for the model puts it, "The Mercedes-Benz COMAND system places a world of technological wonder at your fingertips. Yet as sophisticated as this system is, it is refreshingly simple and intuitive . . . the 2007 S-Class is a moving library of patents."
Some of the newest features to be added include night vision, "airmatic" suspension, and ambient lighting to make the cabin more comfortable. The new rear tailights and the extra width around the wheel base, make the new S-Class look more agressive than its predecessor.
Another favorite point of reference for the Whipwork staff is the new shape of the front headlights which have a sharper, edgier feel. Our thought is that a good chunk of this cars inspiration came from the Maybach sedan. We recently had an opportunity to take a look at the Maybach 57S, which is the shorter, sportier version of the Mayback model. Aside from providing inspiration for the S-class, we wonder if the shorter model will really catch on since the Maybach has proven itself to be a car where one is driven in the back, not behind the wheel.

The Maybach is definitely something to aspire to, we're anxious to see new photos of the Maybach coupe that has yet to hit the streets.
After the writing of the original segment, a member of our staff was picking up his car from a nearby garage and came accross a brand new, rimmed up, white 2007 S550 that's apparently owned by a member of the North Carolina Wildcats. The car is so new it still had the 20-day resident sticker displayed on the dash board. New car releases are always followed by the early sightings of the first of the new models to be modified. This is the first time we've seen the new S550 with anything more than stock wheels. Hopefully we'll catch more glimpses in the weeks and months ahead.
With all the auto news out these days, it's hard to keep track of everything. Never fear, we'll keep you posted as the photos roll in. The Whipwork Team
